“She’s too busy with her lessons, Karantu, Arakanar,” Rikeha told them as they sat in the living room.

The High Priestess had arrived soon after Kar and Arakanar did. The current conversation had come up quickly when Cam hadn’t come in the door with Rikeha.

“For the foreseeable future, young Camyani will be residing at the temple full-time. As soon as I can, I will be certain to let you know,” Rikeha continued. “You might consider, though, that once you are cleared to head back out, brother, you simply take Karantu here with you, leaving Camyani here for a while to continue learning. She is safe here and can learn so much.”

Kar didn’t like it at all. There was no way they could just leave her here indefinitely, nor did he like the idea of her staying at the temple full-time. He wasn’t sure why exactly, but he would have much preferred if she was somewhere he could talk to her. Something he wanted to talk with Rikeha about right now, based on what she had said.

“I have no doubt she can learn plenty there; however, she is under my protection. I’m not about to leave her, not without at minimum, talking to her first so she understands why. Before that can even be a possibility, I’d want to make specific arrangements with you, High Priestess, so that I can come back to check on her - without Arakanar needing to accompany me,” Kar argued, crossing his arms as he spoke. Taking such a stance against the High Priestess was likely unwise, but she needed to know where he stood on the matter and be reminded of who he was to Cam.

“You may have a long wait. Perhaps, with some additional visits to the library under Miguye’s direction of what to read, you will learn enough to be cleared to at least set foot inside the temple. Once that is the case, I can quite easily arrange for you to speak with Camyani briefly. Is that acceptable? Especially considering Miguye has made it clear how quickly you learn, it should not take you very long,” Rikeha pointed out, smiling the whole time. Kar wasn’t sure he liked her choice of tone. It was as if she was treating him like someone she had to keep in line. It wasn’t much different from the tone most Elves took with him back home - that touch of condescension in it.

“Rikeha, you know time is not exactly on his side. He has his own quest to return to and when I leave, he will be going as well. Possibly Camyani can come home for one last dinner before we head out —” Arakanar began, before being stopped by Rikeha holding a hand out to hush him.

“I do understand the situation. I will see what I can do under the circumstances. Yet if time is of the essence, perhaps you should have been spending more time in the library to begin with, rather than these long breaks you take - even if they are at Miguye’s suggestion.
